Things has changed I am talking again with my older brother and my younger brother is back home.

For many motorists, these pictures of a prolific wheel-clamping firm’s van being clamped for having no road tax will be regarded as poetic justice.
An employee of Southend-based LBS Enforcement, which has demanded substantial payment from hapless motorists across the region, got a taste of their own medicine.
Southend Council spotted the car and swooped. The vehicle was clamped, towed away and impounded.
As it happened, an LBS tow truck arrived on the scene...seemingly just too late to save its own vehicle.

An African sand dog named Rascal has won the Del Mar Fairgrounds Ugly Dog Contest at its first attempt.
The toothless 7-year-old with a mohawk has received similar gongs at other shows before its winning turn at the 15th annual San Diego event.
Owner Dane Andrew said: "I think he's the most handsome dog I've ever seen
"People just say, 'Your dog is ugly'. So we just go with it and have fun with it. He's the best at what he does, I guess. He's ugly."

Bozeman Police Officer Marek Ziegler was called to Van's IGA last Friday night to check on a shoplifting report.
The 33-year-old officer has been on the Bozeman force for three years. He is a K-9 handler and works nights, from about 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
When he got to the grocery store on North Seventh Avenue, employees told Ziegler that a 32-year-old man had stuffed food and "pens, pencils, maybe markers, things for his kids" into his coat.
The officer arrested the man, cited him for theft and then released him.
But the story didn't end there.

90-year-old Grandma takes on the rapids

A woman in Linlithgow, Scotland, said she celebrated her 90th birthday by going white-water rafting down the rapids of the River Tay.
Gean Hodsdon said she decided to dare the rapids for her birthday Friday after her doctor nixed her initial plans to go skydiving to honor the fact she was turning 90.
"It was great fun and quite an eye-opener. I didn't realize how much safety gear I would have to put on," Hodsdon said of her birthday adventure.
"I like the water normally but this wasn't very peaceful."
Hodsdon, who resides in a nursing home when she isn't daring the rapids of an icy river, said she chose to enjoy an adventurous birthday because the alternative was simply too "tame."
"I don't feel like I'm 90 although my body does. I thought just having a birthday party would be a bit tame," the daring grandmother said.

The total price tag: about $44 million -- or roughly 10,000 years' worth of salary for the average citizen of Azerbaijan. But the preteen who owns a big chunk of some of Dubai's priciest real estate seems to be anything but average.
His name, according to Dubai Land Department records, is Heydar Aliyev, which just happens to be the same name as that of the son of Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliyev. The owner's date of birth, listed in property records, is also the same as that of the president's son.

6-Year-Old Suspended for Making Gun with Hand

A Michigan boy reportedly has been suspended from school for curling his hand into the shape of a gun and pointing it at another student.
Erin Jammer, said her son, Mason, was just playing around when he made the gesture.
"I do think it's harsh for a six-year-old. He's six and he just likes to play. Maybe what you could do is take his recess away. He's only six and he doesn't understand any of this," Erin Jammer said.
But officials at Jefferson Elementary School said the behavior made other students uncomfortable, and they suspended Mason for the remainder of the week.
School officials said Mason had been warned repeatedly against pretending to aim his hand at students but continued the behavior over several months.
Jammer told the paper her son isn't violent and doesn’t have toy guns at home. She suggested a less harsh punishment, like taking Mason’s recess away, might be more effective in teaching him not to make a gun with his hand.
"He's only six and he doesn't understand any of this," she said.

A lucky cat has survived after being trapped for four weeks in a chilled food warehouse - by eating frozen peas.
The feline managed to survive temperatures of -2C (-28F) for a month in the warehouse before it was finally rescued by the RSPCA.
The 12-month-old black and white tabby cat, who has been nicknamed 'Frosty' by RSPCA staff, is believed to have survived by eating frozen peas and licking moisture off icy food packets.

US officials are investigating how a child was apparently allowed to direct planes at New York's JFK airport - one of the country's busiest.
The probe comes after an audiotape caught the boy directing several pilots preparing for take-off last month.
In one exchange, the boy is heard saying: "JetBlue 171 contact departure." The pilot responds: "Over to departure JetBlue 171, awesome job."
The boy was apparently with his father - a certified air traffic controller.
The adult is later heard saying with a laugh: "That's what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school."
In another exchange, the child says: "MS 4-0-3, contact departure," and then adds: "Adios, amigo."
The pilot responds: "Adios, amigo."
The pilots on the tape appear to be not concerned that a child is giving them instructions.
The incident happened on 17 February, when many New York pupils were on a week-long break.
The age and name of the child and the adult on the audiotape were not immediately known.
'Not indicative' incident
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement: "Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic.
"This behavior is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees."
The agency did not give any further details.
The National Air Traffic Controllers Association said the incident was "not indicative of the highest professional standards that controllers set for themselves and exceed each and every day in the advancement of aviation safely".

Funeral directors in Dover, England said they carried out the last wish of a British man who died from emphysema by placing signs on his hearse reading: "Smoking Killed Me."
Paul Sullivan of Sullivan and Sons Funeral Directors said Albert "Dick" Whittamore, who died at age 85, was buried Tuesday in Dover, England, after a procession through town with signs on the hearse bearing the longtime smoker's final message.
"Although he had reached the age of 85, he had been suffering for a while and wanted to do his bit to warn others about smoking," Sullivan said. "He specified that that's what he wanted in his will. We gave it some thought but after a while we decided that that's what he had requested."
"Dick had emphysema, which is a lung condition caused by smoking which results in people struggling for breath," a Quit spokesman said. "Dick is sending out a strong message to smokers as he doesn't want others to suffer."

Workers lost their jobs for jaywalking

Some of the more than 40 workers in Detroit were given termination papers from a Detroit construction site said they were fired as a consequence of jaywalking.
The workers, who asked not to be identified, said they were contractors at the Marathon Oil Refinery site until bosses handed down termination notices for crossing a public street in front of the site without using the crosswalk,
"I was floored. I was in awe. I couldn't believe I got terminated over it," one worker said.
Marathon officials said the workers had recently been specifically instructed to use the crosswalk during a recent safety meeting.
"The workers were well aware of the need to follow the rules and procedures. Some, of reasons unknown, decided to take their lives in their own hands," spokeswoman Chris Fox said.
The company said the workers were suspended for 90 days, but the contractors said they were terminated and their papers specify they are "not eligible for rehire."
"It could possibly be a way to cut down the workforce and not want to pay unemployment. That would be the best way," one of the workers theorized.

Wildlife Safari in Winston, Ore has rare animals from across the globe - like rhinos, lions and even an Anatolian Shepherd.
And the rare thing about the Anatolian Shepherd female at Wildlife Safari is not her breed, but her roommate - who just happens to be the fastest predator on earth.
"It's a very popular question of why we have a dog and a cheetah out there and it's a common practice that a lot of institutions across the United States are doing right now in an effort to tell this very conservation story," said Dan Brands, Curator at Wildlife Safari.
As a single birth cheetah cub, Sanurra was abandoned by her mother, which opened the door for these two to be brought together.
"Rather than let Sanurra grow up alone we were able to bring in a dog as a sibling, basically like her sister, and they have been together ever since," said Sarah Roy, cheetah supervisor at Wildlife Safari.
This odd pairing was no accident, as an Anatolian Shepherd is very protective and that natural instinct could be the key to saving the wild cheetah population.
"Anatolians will be like that no matter how they are raised, whether it's with goats or whether it's cattle. So the farmers get these dogs as puppies and a big barking dog is plenty to keep a cheetah away from their livestock. And in turn, farmers are shooting less cheetahs because right now they are a shoot-on-sight animal," said Roy.
While these roommates may be considered the odd couple at Wildlife Safari, caretakers says it's like nothing they've ever seen.
"When we take the dog for her daily walk, the cheetah sits on her house and waits for the dog to come back and if we take Sanurra down to the village for the day, Ellie cries and whines for her cheetah to come back, so they do miss each other," said Roy.
That type of bond could change the road ahead for cheetahs in Africa.

A 71-year-old woman who visits Manchester airport every week, but has never been on a plane, has finally boarded her favorite jet.
Rosemary Bate, 71, goes to the Aviation Viewing Park every weekend and marvels at the pilots who land the Cathay Pacific 747 cargo plane.
Ms Bate wrote to airport bosses asking them to "fix it" for her to meet the aircraft's pilots.
She was invited on board and said it was "a dream come true".
“I have been interested in the Cathay Pacific cargo plane as it is so large I can't comprehend the skill and talent it must take in landing it here”

Captain John Rands welcomed Ms Bate on board the plane before it headed to Hong Kong.
Ms Bate said she never even expected a reply from the airport.
"I have actually never been on a plane in my whole life so I really enjoy coming to the airport at the weekend for the excitement of seeing the aircraft take off and land," she said.
"I have been interested in the Cathay Pacific cargo plane as it is so large I can't comprehend the skill and talent it must take in landing it here.
"I have felt like an excitable child at the thought of having a look around the aircraft today, it really has made my dreams come true."
Andrew Cornish, Manchester Airport's Managing Director, said Ms Bate's was a "particularly unusual request".
"I am very pleased we were able to fix it so Mrs. Bate got to live out her dream and I'm glad that she enjoyed it," he said.

Thieves mistakenly dialed 911 and gave their location away
Police in Daytona Beach Florida says two teenagers are facing charges after 911 dispatchers heard them talking about breaking into cars when one teen’s cell phone accidentally called 911 during a heist.
Daytona Beach police say 19-year-old Stefanie Vargas and a 13-year-old boy are charged with burglary to a conveyance.
Police spokesman Jimmie Flynt says dispatchers listened as the pair discussed what was worth taking while rummaging though a vehicle parked near a Daytona Beach nightclub early Sunday.
Officers went to the area and spotted the boy inside a vehicle. A police report says the pair tried to flee in a sport utility vehicle driven by Vargas. The report says both admitted to the robbery.
It’s unclear how the number got dialed.

Bakery voluntarily recalls lemon Girl Scout cookies

They promise to entice the senses with a "hint of cinnamon-ginger spice" and a "refreshingly zesty lemon crème filling," but some batches of Lemon Chalet Crème Girl Scout cookies didn't quite turn out that way.
A Kentucky bakery that makes the cookies pulled some batches Thursday after about a dozen people complained of a foul smell and taste.
Little Brownie Bakers in Louisville, one of two bakeries in the U.S. that makes Girl Scout cookies, said Friday no one has gotten sick from the stinky, bad-tasting cookies sold in 24 states, and they are safe to eat.
The problem is caused by a breakdown of oils in the cookies, the bakery said on its Web site.
The cookies were distributed in Alabama, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
"We undertook a thorough investigation and determined that while the cookies are safe for customers to eat, they are not up to our quality standards," bakery spokeswoman Susanne Norwitz said in an e-mail.
A telephone call to the New York headquarters of Girl Scouts of America went unanswered. A message said the office was closed because of the snowstorm in the Northeast. An e-mail sent through the Web site was not immediately returned.
More than 30 different Girl Scout councils in the affected areas received the cookies, Norwitz said. The bakery contacted each council directly, she said.
The bakery still doesn't know why the oils broke down, she said.
Don Davis, vice president and general manager of manufacturer Little Brownie Bakers, said the cookies involved were distributed from a Louisville warehouse.
Customers who have purchased affected cookies can call their local Girl Scout council or (800) 962-1718. A message at that number said customers may receive a coupon for "a Keebler free product refund."
The affected batches have the following lot codes, located on the bottom of each cookie box and on the brown cases: 7455881, 7455882, 7455883, 7456741, 7456742, 7456743, 7457661, 7457662, 7457663, 7458521, 7458522, 7458523, 7459401, 7459402 and 7459403.
The other bakery that makes Girl Scout Cookies is ABC Bakers, a subsidiary of Interbake Foods LLC of Richmond, Va.
On the ABC Bakers Web site, the bakery said there were "no quality issues" with its version of a lemon-flavored cookie called the Lemonade.

A man spent so much time on hold with a state unemployment agency trying to claim his benefits that he racked up a $700 cell phone bill.
Ernie Sanchez called the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, a government-run unemployment relief agency over a thousand times trying to get his unemployment money to cover his basic needs, but could not seem to get through. Now, he has to use almost all of the benefits to pay his Verizon bill. "It's almost the same amount for two weeks of benefits that I was trying to get," Sanchez said.
"The bill shows Sanchez made 1,114 calls to the unemployment office in one month. Some days, it took hundreds of calls to get through -- each call costing $0.45. When he would get through, he says he would be put on hold. One time, he was on hold for almost 3 1/2 hours." That one phone call cost Sanchez nearly $100.

Traffic police spotted the driver, 36, on the M4 motorway using dental floss to clean her teeth in her rear view mirror.
She was pulled over, lectured about careless driving and given a fixed penalty notice of £60.
Police say it is the latest example of people risking lives for a moment of high-speed vanity.
A spokesman said: "We've caught women applying lipstick, make-up and checking their hair in the mirror - and even men using an electric razor on their way to work.
"But this is the first time we've seen someone flossing their teeth at the wheel. It was a quite bizarre sight.
"It is particularly dangerous because you need to use both hands which clearly should be used to drive the car."
Experienced traffic police often say some people's driving is mental - but one joked: "On this occasion it was dental."
The woman was caught by Gwent Police near junction 24 of the M4 at Coldra, Newport, during an eight-day clampdown.
Officers in an unmarked police car caught 57 drivers committing offences on a stretch of the M4.
Only one was caught cleaning her teeth - and she accepted the fixed penalty fine instead of fighting the case.
Other offences included driving without a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, vehicle defects and a learner driver towing a load.
Inspector Lee Ford said: "It is very concerning that a number of drivers are driving irresponsibly and carelessly on our motorways.
"The potential risks not only risk the safety of the driver involved but also other road users."

Couple married in hospital when baby was born one week premature
A Wisconsin couple had just one request for the hospital where their baby was to be born this week: Get us married, STAT.
Originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, the wedding of parents-to-be Erin Heather and Mark Weber was to take place only a week before their baby's Feb. 26 due date.
But when Heather went into labor prematurely, at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, she and her boyfriend of 11 years rushed to St. Mary's Hospital in Madison to say their "I dos" in a makeshift chapel there instead, at 11 in the morning rather than 4:30 in the afternoon.
On the way, they stopped to pick up the marriage license — and notified St. Mary’s about their needs.
An ordained minister friend of Weber's officiated at the ceremony, which was attended by a few friends, a few hospital staff.
The couple were in such a hurry to get married because, of "old-fashioned grandparents" and a desire to officially be "a family" when their child arrived.
The baby, a girl, was born Thursday night.

But a quick turnaround saw the missing letter added on at the end, completing the big question.

A Minneapolis woman has received a $1,600 water bill, a bill the city believes is accurate even though it's 20 times the woman's usual bill. Erica Kocur said her bill is generally $70 to $80 per month. She said her "heart just dropped" when she got her latest bill. The city said she must have a running toilet or dripping faucet.
But they billed her for using almost 200,000 gallons of water. That's three times the volume of her entire home. A shower would have to run nonstop for almost two months to use that much water.
The city's director of treasury is LeeAnn Stagg. She said the city believes the bill is accurate, but the city will check Kocur's meter one more time.

Weightlifting ant is photo winner

An amazing image of an ant lifting 100 times its body weight has won first prize in a science photography contest.
The image shows an Asian weaver ant hanging upside down on a glass-like surface and holding a 500mg (0.02oz) weight in its jaws.
It was taken by zoology specialist Dr Thomas Endlein of Cambridge University as he researched insects' sticky feet.
Dr Endlein won £700 in photographic vouchers from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
The research shows how ants change the size and shape of the pads on their feet to enable them to carry heavier loads.
He hopes it could help scientists develop better glues.
"The pads on ants' feet are self-cleaning and can stick to almost any type of surface," he said.
"No man-made glue or adhesive system can match this. Understanding how animals can control their adhesive systems should help us come up with clever adhesives in the future."

Some of the courtrooms are not even courtrooms: tiny offices or basement rooms without a judge’s bench or jury box. Sometimes the public is not admitted, witnesses are not sworn to tell the truth, and there is no word-for-word record of the proceedings.
Nearly three-quarters of the judges are not lawyers, and many — truck drivers, sewer workers or laborers — have scant grasp of the most basic legal principles. Some never got through high school, and at least one went no further than grade school.
But serious things happen in these little rooms all over New York State. People have been sent to jail without a guilty plea or a trial, or tossed from their homes without a proper proceeding. When a mixed breed pit bull terrier walked into a busy supermarket, animal welfare officers, called in by staff, were shocked to find it had a stillborn puppy trapped inside.
The staff at Scotts Supermarket, in Naxxar called the Animal Welfare Department on Saturday afternoon to report that a stray dog had walked into the supermarket, welfare officer Godric Marston said.
The dog, named Mel after the girl who called for help, lay down on a carpet in the supermarket and remained still.
"On arriving at the supermarket, I realized there was something unusual about the dog. On closer look, I could see a part of the puppy. It was dead but still inside her. It was clear this dog needed to be operated upon immediately or she would die," Mr. Marston said.
He rushed the dog to Happy Paws, a veterinary clinic, where it was immediately operated on. Recovering after undergoing operation.

Hoskins said he's been in a struggle with RiverHills Bank over his Clermont County home for nearly a decade, a struggle that was coming to an end as the bank began foreclosure proceedings on his $350,000 home.
"When I see I owe $160,000 on a home valued at $350,000, and someone decides they want to take it – no, I wasn't going to stand for that, so I took it down," Hoskins said.
Hoskins said the Internal Revenue Service placed liens on his carpet store and commercial property on state Route 125 after his brother, a one-time business partner, sued him.
The bank claimed his home as collateral, Hoskins said, and went after both his residential and commercial properties.
"The average homeowner that can't afford an attorney or can fight as long as we have, they don't stand a chance," he said.
Hoskins said he'd gotten a $170,000 offer from someone to pay off the house, but the bank refused, saying they could get more from selling it in foreclosure.
"I'll tear it down before I let you take it," Hoskins told them.
And that's exactly what Hoskins did.

The 34-year-old trucker from the Balkans was stopped for speeding on a highway in the southern canton of Tessin and was found to have driven more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) in 18 hours without stop, local police said.
Hunkered down in his cab, the man reportedly gobbled up the paper discs of his truck's tacho graph, which records speed and the time driven. He was hospitalised after suffering stomach pains.
The incident posed no serious health consequences, police said, and the driver was fined for the infraction.
Tacho graphs are intended to ensure that truck drivers do not work overly long hours as part of overall road safety requirements.

Smith, whose is legally blind and a regular at the bar, needed someone to escort her from her houseboat at Beaufort Marina and Briggs was in mourning after losing his wife of 63 years about a year and a half ago.
Briggs, a retired salmon fisherman from Alaska, knows boats and will be able to help around Smith's docked houseboat, her son, Butch England, said.
While the couple has made no firm plans for the future, Briggs dreams of buying a schooner and sailing to Alaska with his new bride.
"He's got his heart set on getting another boat, but we'll see," Smith said. "I'm a very fortunate girl either way."

Puppy's life saved by blood transfusion

A purebred six-week-old puppy in Australia owes her life to a blood transfusion from a gentle greyhound more than 15 times her size.
Cairns resident Sami Knoblock had a tearful reunion with her English Staffordshire terrier after their scary ordeal. Ms Knoblock said her dog, Buddy, was vomiting and could hardly lift her 1.6kg body to stand on.
She rushed her sick dog to Brinsmead Veterinary Surgery where Greencross principal surgeon Max Fargher found a hookworm infestation that had caused a massive hemorrhage.
With Buddy at death's door, Dr Fargher raced home to get his trusty pooch Hurley, a male, six-year-old 34kg greyhound.
Dr Fargher then performed a transfusion by transferring a "drop" of Hurley's blood - 120ml - to Buddy.
He said a young dog's first blood transfusion could be from any donor dog, but if it needed a second, it would have been a far trickier situation.

Hilary Taylor was left a rather unusual part of her uncle’s estate when he died – 3,000 watering cans.
Ken Stickland – known as Watering Can Man – filled his shed, greenhouse, garden and even an entire floor of his house with his beloved collection.
Mr. Stickland – who died last month, aged 78 – even kept a meticulous record of every watering can, including many he made himself.
‘I have heard of people collecting teapots or stamps... but this?’
‘He was such a fascinating person. He started his collection in 2001 but I have no idea why. I suppose it kept his mind occupied and he had something to get up for.
‘Nearly every charity shop in the area knew him because he was always looking for watering cans.

Gregorio Iñiguez and several other employees have reportedly been sacked after they minted a set of 50-peso coins with the name of their nation spelt incorrectly.
The coins were released into the circulation
with C-H-I-I-E stamped on the front where it should read C-H-I-L-E.
The coins have since become collectors' items and the mint says it has no plans to take them out of circulation.
People have reportedly been hoarding the coins in the hope their value rises.
But the mistake has cost the mint's general manager, Gregorio Iniguez, and several other employees, their jobs.
It is not the first embarrassing blunder at the Chilean mint. Last October, someone there sold a rare medal, which should have been housed in the institution's museum, to a coin collector.

A teacher who put up "missing" posters in a bid to find her beloved cat Fluffy was astonished to be hit with a £75 for graffiti by her local council.
Lynda Dyson was overjoyed when the A4 computer print-outs she taped to trees and lampposts near her home in east London helped to reunited her with the three year-old, black Persian cat.
But her delight was short-lived after a demand for £75 from the local council's enforcement department landed on her doormat.
The fine was issued under Section 43 of the Anti-social Behavior Act, which polices fly-posting and graffiti.
Mrs. Dyson said home-made posters have helped people to find missing pets for centuries and should be treated differently.
"In a world where there is less and less community spirit, to impose a law and fine me for something like this is horrible," she said. “Pets are a very important part of people's lives. Without those notices, I would never have got her back.
“I don't see it as being anti-social behavior at all. Fluffy is outraged.”
A spokesman for Waltham Forest Council said the fine, issued last month, was given "in error" and later cancelled.
"In this case a mistake was made and we would like to apologize unreservedly to Ms Dyson for any offence or alarm that was caused," he said.

A dog which is allergic to pet food, going for walks and even chasing cats has been put on a strict diet and given antibiotics to help ease his pain.
Joey, an Alsatian-Collie cross, had been constantly breaking out in a rash.
His owner, Scott Muirhead, from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, took him to vets at Taylors Practice in Glasgow who diagnosed numerous allergies.
Since the poorly pooch began his new medication his condition has vastly improved.
Mr. Muirhead, 36, told the BBC Scotland news website: "We've spent the past year trying to figure out what was wrong with him.
"His skin was terrible. He was breaking out in boils and scratching all the time.
"We have been trying special diets but really weren't getting anywhere."
Vets at Taylors eventually carried out blood tests on Joey and were astonished by the results.
"He was basically allergic to everything," said Mr. Muirhead.
"We were given a list and it included all types of meat, dairy produces, long grass, daisies, dandelions, cat hair and other dog hair."
Scott Muirhead, and his partner Lisa McCormack, 25, have had Joey, who turns five next week, since he was a puppy and were baffled by the fact that up until last year he had never had any problems with his diet.
"We used to feed him everything and anything but now Joey can't have any treats, "said Mr. Muirhead.
"We were told he could only eat things like potatoes, porridge and barley."
The couple hopes a new medication they are trying Joey on might give him a new lease of life.
Mr Muirhead added: "His hair is starting to grow back and his skin seems to be in better condition. "It is still early to tell but he seems to be picking up and it does seem to be making a difference."

Injured duckling helps teach young boy to walk

He was expected to spend his life in a wheelchair, but here's Finlay Lomax taking his first steps after learning to walk by copying a disabled duckling.
The four-year-old suffered a stroke as a baby and developed cerebral palsy. Doctors told his mum Becci he'd never be able to stand on his own two feet.
But he began studying the way pet duckling Ming-Ming walked with a splayed leg and started mimicking him. He told astonished Becci: "I walk like the duck mummy."
She said: "I had been told Finlay might never be able to walk so it's amazing to think he is taking steps thanks to the duckling.
"He's been having physio all his life but never really responded until we got the duckling."
Becci, 29, took in tiny Ming-Ming after a farmer friend told her the duckling struggled to walk because of his bad leg and was going to be put down.
A vet gave the duck physiotherapy and fitted him with a splint. He began to ' home as his leg strengthened. Single mum Becci, of Plymouth, Devon, added: "As soon as Ming-Ming started physio and began walking so did Finlay. I was brimming with pride. Finlay has really taken to him. He is now much stronger and it's great to see him walking.
"I've told him if he works hard then one day he will be able to take Ming-Ming for walks on a lead. That is what he is really working towards."
Finlay can now manage to walk five yards at a time with the help of a Zimmer frame.
Becci added: "Basically when Ming-Ming laid or sat down, his leg was right up near his head and he was unable to walk.
"I was told the duckling was to be put down.
"I was trying all over to find a vet that knew about ducks. At first I didn't think he would make it, I felt sick.
"The most amazing thing is, in helping the duckling; Finlay has also taken his first steps."
Finlay suffered brain damage as an infant and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy - which affects the way the brain co-ordinates movement in the body.
Law student Becci rescued Ming-Ming - named after a character in TV show Wonder Pets - when he was just a day and-a-half-old.

The parks department removed trash cans last week, replacing them with signs urging users to pack out their own litter.
Neighbors are encouraged to bring their own lawn mowers to local green spaces, because parks workers will mow them only once every two weeks. If that.
Water cutbacks mean most parks will be dead, brown turf by July; the flower and fertilizer budget is zero.
City recreation centers, indoor and outdoor pools, and a handful of museums will close for good March 31 unless they find private funding to stay open. Buses no longer run on evenings and weekends. The city won't pay for any street paving, relying instead on a regional authority that can meet only about 10 percent of the need.
"I guess we're going to find out what the tolerance level is for people," said businessman Chuck Fowler, who is helping lead a private task force brainstorming for city budget fixes. "It's a new day."
Some residents are less sanguine, arguing that cuts to bus services, drug enforcement and treatment and job development are attacks on basic needs for the working class.
"How are people supposed to live? We're not a 'Mayberry R.F.D.' anymore," said Addy Hansen, a criminal justice student who has spoken out about safety cuts. "We're the second-largest city, and growing, in Colorado. We're in trouble. We're in big trouble."

Don Callahan rescued his four-legged companion, Wyatt Earp, at an adoption fair held at the Detroit Zoo five years ago. Now, Wyatt Earp has returned the favor.
On January 23, Callahan collapsed while on a walk with the dog by Rotary Park on 13 Mile Road. Drivers and pedestrians couldn't see Callahan as he lay in the dark on the sidewalk.
His loyal companion stayed by his side and barked incessantly. Finally, someone called the police about the dog being a nuisance. When police responded, they found Callahan and rushed him to the hospital.
Callahan who is a diabetic, went into a coma after his blood sugar level dropped to 18, far below normal levels.
Besides being thankful for Wyatt Earp, Callahan says he is thankful to Marlene Burgess who called the police about the barking dog, which brought him the help he so greatly needed.
Callahan is recuperating at home with Wyatt Earp right by his side.

Ms Johns, who visits twice a week, said owners can rest easy knowing their pets will be cared for. That's the case even if an owner dies or is incapacitated.
"You can't often rehome a cat, especially an older cat, and people want peace of mind," she said.
To become a resident, cats must be at least eight years old and owners must donate $6000 to cover expenses for the cat's life.

A boy who went on a rampage at home in the Republic of Ireland has been ordered by a judge to do the household chores for the next six months.
Judge Clare Leonard yesterday told the boy, 15, he must attend school, not lose his temper at home when his parents say "no", attend sporting clubs, and “clean his room and do cooking".

A blind man wakes up one morning and finds that the entrances to his driveway have been blocked by cement barriers. That man is suffering from physical disabilities has lost his sight and about two months ago underwent a kidney transplant. Naturally he could not witness with his own eyes the convoy which included a City of Toronto truck containing concrete blocks and two police vehicles, which arrived in his house and with a large crane blocked the two entrances to his driveway.
The city workers who blocked the driveway told Kadosh that it was too wide and needs to be narrowed down. They claimed they would do the job and then send him the bill. “The driveway was always this wide, even before I moved in. I never received any letter or even a phone call from them and the supervisor refused to give me a copy of the letter that was sent to my old address. The whole thing was done so quickly, in approximately half an hour so I couldn’t respond, and it was done in an insulting way with police on the scene. By blocking the driveway, they essentially prevented me from having access to my own house.”
The City of Toronto refused to comment on the issue. John Filion, a Toronto city councilor representing the ward Kadosh lives in, told Shalom Life that the driveway in Kadosh’s house is illegal. “There were more than ten cars parked on that driveway, making the whole thing illegal. He was given repeated notices to correct the illegalities and had ignored them.” Filion could not comment on the way the matter was handled by city employees or why the letter was sent to Kadosh’s old address in Thornhill.
Kadosh said that he never parked more than two cars on his driveway and so the city’s allegations were untrue.

A report from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office in reporting 34-year-old James M. Denoon and 18-year-old Anthony Stout were found hiding under a truck at the bakery late Friday night.
The deputies found about $300 worth of stolen snack cakes stacked on the ground nearby.
Finding the accused thieves was easy: The deputies only had to follow their footprints. There was more than an inch of snow on the ground by Friday night.

Ultrasounds Can Detect Hundreds of Deformities, But Not Babies Missing Eyes
When Taylor Garrison gave birth in October, she was astonished that doctors whisked her daughter, Brielle, out of the delivery room without much explanation.
"They took her out of the room, and they wouldn't let us see her," said Garrison, 15, of Wellington, Fla.
Finally, after six hours of tests, Garrison got to look briefly at her baby and see what doctors were so concerned about.
"She looked like a normal baby, but I could just tell something was wrong," Garrison said.
Brielle was born without any eye tissue at all, a condition called anophthalmia that leaves a person irrevocably blind.
Garrison also learned this rare diagnosis was one that is almost always missed by ultrasound -- even though hundreds of genetic diseases and deformities once discovered at birth can now be detected with the latest ultrasound technology.

The Arizona Lottery says time is running out for the holders of two winning Powerball tickets to come forward and claim their money.
Lottery officials say a $10,000 winning ticket for the Powerball game last Aug. 15 and a $200,000 winning ticket for the Aug. 19 Powerball game still have not been cashed in.
They say the $10,000 winning ticket was bought in Tempe while the $200,000 winning ticket was purchased in Wikieup.
Lottery officials say the deadline for claiming the $10,000 prize is Feb. 11 and the deadline for the $200,000 prize is Feb. 15.
