Student billed $200 for unwanted 911 call
It's a bill most people wouldn't expect. Someone calls 911 and firefighters arrive to help. But in some metro areas, that emergency help comes with a hefty price tag.
A Westminster man found that out and is warning others. Taggart Holston, 23, got into a single-car, non-injury rollover Feb. 20 on I-76 near 88th Ave. in Commerce City. South Adams firefighters showed up to help. And days later, he got a $200 bill from them.
"The bill they gave me is about how much I make in an entire week," says Holston. The Metro College student is upset about what's called "rescue billing."
"I got a bill alright. I just wasn't rescued," he says.
South Adams Fire is now charging victims, like Holston, who live outside the district and don't pay taxes funding their emergency services.

Condo owner finds out he's been renovating the wrong unit
He bought his first home, poured $30,000.00 into it to fix up, now 6 months later Jonathon Kyte has learned his home doesn't belong to him.
"I froze, I just pointed at it, my wife was there, we were just speechless."
According to the city and county of Denver, Jonathon owns the dump, next door. He found out about the mistake almost by accident when he received a map which showed the unit he's living is actually unit number 4.
But he owns the deed and title to unit number 5. Jonathon blames the Coldwell Banker listing agent for the mistake. She marketed the property and provided the key to the unit Jonathon and wife have been living in. He called the listing agent again and again but she wouldn't return his calls. He also called the title company, " Colorado American Title, " and an employee promised to get back to him, but never did.
So Jonathon called Fox 31 News. We confronted the listing agent's supervisor, but he would not comment on camera. He said their lawyers were looking into it.
Jonathon is now considered a squatter in the condo --he thought he bought.
And all the people who were so willing to sell it to him, are unwilling to help.

Meet Edward the wonder dog

EDWARD the wonder dog saves the life of his owner every time she goes to bed.
Wendy Hilling can stop breathing in her sleep because of an extreme skin condition which could suffocate her.
But Edward, a golden retriever, is trained to listen out as she’s sleeping, and he wakes her husband Peter if her breathing pattern changes.
He also lends a paw with the washing and zips up Wendy's coat for her.
He can even WITHDRAW money from a cash machine.
Wendy, 59, from West Yelland, Devon, suffers from dystrophic recessive epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic disorder which causes extremely fragile skin.
It also causes rapid blistering inside her throat which could stop her from breathing.
She was born with the condition, but says that since Edward arrived in January 2007, her life has been transformed.

Lifesaver
"I had wanted a canine partner for sometime but all the others I had tried had been far too rough, through no fault of their own," she said.
"The trainers at Canine Partners thought that the best way around the problem was for me to help them train up a puppy.
"Edward was born to Exmoor breeders Colin and Sheila Martin who have bred many canine partners over the years.
"He came to me aged just one month old, covered in hair and looking like a little toy bear - that’s why I named him Edward, or Teddy for short."
Edward can perform in response to more than 120 commands, some of which are lifesavers.
Wendy said: "Due to my condition, my throat is the size of a five pence piece and can close at any time, stopping my breathing in the process."
Wendy’s condition means that any sort of contact with her skin can cause it to tear and blister, both internally and externally.
She said: "Edward does a lot of the tricky things for me now and it’s amazing what a fast learner he is.
"Only this week we discovered that he would insert and remove my credit card from cash machines.
"He’s completely changed my life and I don’t know what I’d do without him."

"He was so scared back there and you have to realize he's been through a traumatic experience I'm sure with the accident and then brought to a strange place not knowing who we are, where it is," said the Humane Society's Pam Weise.
Even Zak's name was a mystery.
Take a look at the video story on this web page to see Zak, keeping watch for his traveling partner who will never return.
Don't worry -- there's a happy ending.

Super dog Kody is Alan's best friend

They say a dog is a man's best friend – but for Alan Smith his pet Kody is so much more.
The three year-old Jack Russell pulls him around the streets in his wheelchair, and the two can often be seen out and about near their Clifton home.
Kody also has a number of useful tricks in his repertoire, including closing doors behind his owner and fetching clothes for him.
Mr Smith, 57, said: "He will stop at the edge of the roads and look for traffic.
"His only downfall is if he sees a cat or another dog – he stops and crouches like a tiger.
"His muscles are strong and the vet says he's very healthy."
Mr Smith has used a wheelchair for 15 years, since his bones deteriorated after a polio attack.
Mr Smith's wife Donna, 49, is his full-time career. She said: "Kody usually brings small items of clothing, if you ask him for your shoes and socks he'll bring you them."
Kody has not been specially trained to act as an assistance dog.
Mr Smith and his wife Donna bought him for companionship, and at first the trips involved the three of them.
They attached Kody to Mr Smith's wheelchair while Mrs Smith rode her bicycle.
But now Kody takes his owner out on by himself, and Mr Smith says the dog gives him the freedom of a walking man.
He said: "He takes me out for half an hour every day and it gives Donna a rest.
"He's a wonderful companion and when we're out it's just the two of us against the world.
"He gets to run which is good exercise for him.
"But sometimes you can be doing 15 miles per hour on the bad Clifton pavements – it shakes my innards up!"
